    BHAVSAGAR KE PAAR

Bhavsagar ke Paar is a game that was introduced in 2023 to the Ajab Gajab Bazaar (see here). Children spread across a giant floorboard in teams and rolled a large dice to get their boats across the Ocean of Life.

As they crossed, they would come across various Bhanwars (whirlpools) where a dartboard would then decide whether their fate was a Sankat (crisis) or Saathi (friend).

From that first iteration, the team of Shabad Shaala and I began to expand the scope of the game. There are 3 aspects to this reworking:

    1. An animated film to act as an introduction to concepts, now its own independent entity

    2. Remaking the
floorboard and dartboard , now mobile and easy to reuse

    3. The Bhavsagar quiz digital game, making the game-experience more accessible

Children are divided into teams and each team is assigned a differently colored boat.

Each team must roll the dice and cross the board, but the gameboard is littered with Bhanwars (whirlpools) that will catch them. What happens changes across the various iterations of the game:

    1. Floorboard Game (Iteration 1): When the boat lands in the whirlpool, one child from the team throws a dart at a dartboard which has sections representing 2 possibilities:

      1. Sankat (problem): Go back 3 steps

      2. Saathi (friend): Go forward 3 steps

    2. Digital Game: In this version, the Bhanwars make you go back 2 steps, and there are Motis (pearls) which lead you to a Card Selection screen to choose a question for your team to answer

      1. Correct Answer: Move forward 3 steps

      2. Wrong Answer: Skip a Turn

    3. Floorboard Game (Iteration 2): The Bhanwars, in this case, present the team with a quiz question that challenges their knowledge, reasoning, or ability to share.

The final surprise section of the game flips the competition on its head and is called the Ulat Dhara (Reverse Stream). Here, players can only move once all teams have reached the Ulat Dhara and can cross together.

Here, your team's rolls are given to the team that is furthest behind till you are all together and can roll together to cross the Bhavsagar (ocean).
