2020, Narrative Conversation Game
Guilt was designed to challenge myself to create a game that could be engaging through conversation and simple visuals alone. I wanted to explore conversation design in a way that would be fluid and would mechanically reflect how the character was feeling.
It was a story about a war veteran who used a leg injury to get himself discharged from the army. The soldier is unnamed throughout the game, and harbours immense guilt for having left the fight while the country is at war. He must confront all of what scares him one by one till, finally, he can accept his decision and move on.
This prototype was developed on Unity by Jonathan Guite and was designed and illustrated by me.
GUILT

conversations
Conversations were mapped out on Illustrator, where Grey boxes represent the main character's dialog, Red represents his alter ego, Fuschia represents his mentor, and Blue represents his bully. Conversations with himself and the bully, at first, show a lot of options to represent hesitation or being unable to say the right thing. The bully, no matter what you say, will interrupt you, and your mentor, no matter what you say, will speak kindly.
